Description
Offered for auction here is the booklet entitled the "North Apennines". Following the Allied invasion of Italy, German forces fought their way north in a strategic retreat. Their defensive positing focused on the "Gothic Line", a rugged area of the Apennine Mountains and German Field Marshal Kesselring's last major defense position in Italy. The Allies were hindered not only by the terrain but also the rainy weather; further, Allied units had been withdrawn to other fronts in Europe, and the US and British did not have adequate men to advance the battle was quickly and decisively as planned. A final push in Spring 1945 brought the Allies to the Po Valley, and shortly thereafter the war ended.US Army Campaigns of World War II - North Apennines, Italy
