Offered for auction here is the booklet entitled "East Indies". Within hours of its attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Japanese forces began campaigns to secure the Malay Peninsula, Java, Sumatra, Borneo and the Celebes Islands, an area often referred to as the East Indies. This area had vital military importance for the defense of the Japanese homeland and also guarded seaway connections to Australia. Allied forces, for much of the war, fought a holding action against Japan; the Allies did not provide sufficient troops and support to aggressively remove Japan from most of its possessions until late in the war. Allies did not provide sufficient troops and support to aggressively remove Japan
from most of its possessions until late in the war. The Allies
formed a joint military operation, ABDACOM (American-British-Dutch-Australian Command)
to lead the defense, but many issues, to include politics, caused this group to be less than effective. This publication contains some
great maps, to include the Pacific Theater in May 1942, the ABDACOM defense area, the routes of Japanese attacks along the Malay Barrier, Japanese landings on Java, and the Japanese conquest of Java.
This publication, which
contains 24 pages
, is in
excellent, virtual mint, condition.
There are no rips or tears, no writing or markings, no spills or smears, and the binding is secure with all pages firmly in place.
