RARE 1968 First Year Alaska Vanity License Plates MB220D Mercedes Benz 220-D WOW

Offering up an Extremely Rare pair of vintage 1968 Alaska vanity license plates for bids here. These are quite special, and are a once in a lifetime find. What makes them so special is they are First Year plates. 1968 was the first year that the state of Alaska offered special order/vanity plates to the public. These first year vanity plates were unique because they were not stamped on a press like other plates were. Instead, they were printed on a Flat Sheet of aluminum, with a silkscreen type process. They do have the reflective properties as standard plates, they are just flat. Many people, even serious collectors don't even know these flat plates exist. This is due to the fact that Very Few were ever ordered! Let's face it, Alaska is not the type of place where vanity plates are in high demand. Add that to the fact that it was the first year offered, and most people didn't even know about them....
To put a cherry on top, check out the plate number!! MB220D! These were on a Mercedes Benz 220-D. Probably owned by a wealthy individual, or possibly even a government official. Has 1969 tabs still in place. They were used, but very gently. Condition is excellent, considering the age and application.
