    What is a replacement note?
    This is a note that is printed to replace a faulty banknote when printing or cutting, as a control mechanism for the exact number of banknotes. So that the bundles always start with 1 and always end with 100, the replacement note is simply labeled with a symbol in the serial number that it identifies as such.
    Depending on the country, the symbol is a "star", as in the case of India, the letter R (for replacement) or the letters W, X, Y, Z, single or doubled.
    But beware the letters W, X, Y, Z are not automatically replacement series and some smart guys are trying to sell "normal" banknotes at high prices. Eg the 1 Dalasi banknote from Gambia where the Z just comes in the row between Y and AA.
